I like egg salad sandwiches.
Just give me a hard-boiled egg, two pieces of bread (toasted), some mayo, and salt and I'm a happy guy.
For lunch today, I was all set. I toasted my bread and cracked open my egg...but...no mayo, no salt. Aargh! I was in too much of a hurry and forgot to pack the essentials!
Now, I'm sitting at my desk, my toast getting all floppy and soft, my egg, nicely cubed, but sitting quietly all by itself, all bland and fat-less, and I'm thinking about how to rescue this lunch. I'm all out of ideas.
Things could be much much worse, I know.
You have to take these things and make the best of them.
For instance, Jeff Healey.
This Canada-born blues guitarist lost his eyes to cancer at the age of 1, had surgery for lung cancer in January, yet, he's going to be touring Denmark in April. That's pretty incredible.
He's probably best known for his hit single, Angel Eyes, which hit #5 on the Billboard charts in 1989. That single, a sweet romantic ballad, was the exception to the rule as the rest of his catalog of songs lean heavily towards rip-roaring, guitar rocking, southern blues.
His distinctive style and sound probably comes from the way he plays, with the guitar sitting on his lap and he frets with all five fingers on top. One music critic described it like watching a hyperactive spider scurrying over the guitar. But, this style of playing allows him to span an incredible number of frets so he can play runs that would be nearly impossible to do otherwise. And, he has a killer vibrato.
Check him out for yourself.
Meanwhile, I'm off to In-n-out for a double-double...
